We all know an idiom, it is said “ interest is the best teacher.” Many parents also say “we should respect children’s choice. If they don’t have interest, how can we force him to do things they don’t want to? If they have interest, of course interest will lead them to success.”
Do you agree with that saying? I don’t want to give you any resoluted answer, today i would like to tell you my own stories.
I have said something about my career life. In that speech, i said when i thought about my future and decided to dedicate myself to spanish. The determination was based on a long-time investigation, and at that time, i believed that my talent in foreign languages would help me to succeed in the self-study process. After all, my English is always excellent and helps me to gain many certificate and honor. Spanish was similar to english, how could it be very hard? And once i mastered the language, i could go to spanish world to experience a wonderful life. So exciting!
Full of ambition and passion, i bought plenty of books to guide my spanish study, and also, i bought a series of video. I made a plan like this: study 2 hours a day without exception. I had to achieve the goal of comunicating with foreigners in one year time!
Even at the first two days, i was thinking about increasing the studying time to 4 hours. So ambitious and diligent i was! Do you think i would achieve my goal?
Things can change as time goes! Time is the best judge! My good status just lasted for one week! Then passion in studying spanish was declining sharply. For one side, i didn’t know if my direction was right. I didn’t have a teacher to help me, to correct my mistakes. For another side, the feeling of loneliness grew like grass in my heart. I didn’t have a partner to communicate with! No one gave me encouragement or applause. Sitting in front of the desk, facing the spanish books, i felt like in a long tunnel, there was no light in front. And what’s worse: if i didn’t finish the day plan, no one knew it and i didn’t receive any punishment.
Do you think i would maintain my studying process? Yes, you are right, after one month’s struggle, i was completely defeated! I hated studying, i felt bored. So, later, the previous studying time was occupied by surfing internet, or talking with my collegues. It was so exciting! But when my eyes contacted the pile of books in the corner, a sense of guilty rised in my heart!
About one year later, something provoked me and i had to think about my future again! I didn’t want to be trapped in the small school! It was not my life destination! So another time, i made up my mind to pick up my spanish! I decided take some measurements to prevent giving up in half way!
The most important was this one: to study 2 hours each day! If i couldn’t achieve it, then the next 2 days, no excuse, i had to study 3 hours each day!
For the second time, interest and passion dispersed quickly., boreness came to me again. Nothing changed, and i had no other choice, i had to persist on the process. It was suffering! Many times, i wanted to quit! Many times, i didn’t have confidence!
But what i told myself: just continue! Life is tough, and you have to be tough! The studying process was like in the inferno.
2 years flew like water and at last i got my certificate in an exam, i was qualified to teach in the training institute!
Looking back in the whole progress, i feel that what i have to thank is my persistence! Interest? Really, it is not the most important factor. It can help you find out your way. But no destination can be reached just with interest!
Even i am an adult, i could not succeed depending to interest! Do you think you can rely on children’s interest? After all, interest can change and disperse in a very short time!
