一、DBA
(Doctor of Business Administration) 中文译为工商管理博士。DBA这个词是继EMBA之后，最受企业家群体关注的管理类课程相关名词之一。是专门为工商界高层管理人员设计的全面系统的管理课程，着重在特定领域产生新的知识和发现。DBA有授课部分，传授研究方法、培养研究能力。DBA有自我研究部分（需要指导老师的指引），对学生自己感兴趣的博士论文题目进行深入研究，并最终提交论文，通过答辩。DBA课程是从商业实践转向特定领域学术发现，适合注重自我实现，并用严谨的思维来指导商业实践的高级商业管理人才。
二、PHD
(Doctor of Philosophy)哲学博士，是博士学位的通称，指通过专业的学术研究获得的高级学位。所谓哲学博士，是指拥有人对其知识范畴的理论、内容及发展等都具有相当的认识，能独立进行研究，并在该范畴内对学术界有所建树。因此，哲学博士基本上可以授予任何学科的博士毕业生。但是我国逐渐兴起的“专业学位”的博士一般不称作PHD，而是每个专业各有其简称。PHD是指学术研究型的博士。
三、区别
PHD和DBA都是博士学位，都从事高水平专业研究，其学术层次是相同的，但工商管理专业PhD通常着重管理理论方面的研究，而DBA则是问题导向，通过严格的学术研究解决实际管理中的问题。
DBA项目招收具备硕士研究生或同等学历、具备丰富管理实践经验的高级人才，旨在通过3-5年的学术训练，使学生系统、深入地掌握工商管理方面的研究方法，并具备强大的分析和解决管理中新问题的能力。DBA学生通过专业课程的考试和博士论文答辩，成绩合格，即可获得DBA学位，这是工商管理专业最高学术水平的学位之一。
