Father of Hybrid Rice passed away in such a hurry

山河有泪凉五月，

Mountains and rivers shed tears in sad May

松柏无言痛万民。

Pines and cypresses are speechless and all people grieve

禾下乘凉成大梦，

Enjoying the cool under rice seedings as tall as sorghum was his dream

田中哀浪卷千重。

Rice ears roll up thousands of sorrowful waves in the field

瑶台再拓科研苑，

May he open up another scientific research centre in heaven

袁老德馨满乾坤。
