“Good morning,” said the fox.
“Good morning,” the little prince responded politely, although when he turned around he saw nothing.
“I am right here,” the voice said, “under the apple tree.”
“Who are you?” asked the little prince, and added, “You are very pretty to look at.”
“I am a fox,” said the fox.
“Come and play with me,” proposed the little prince. “I am so unhappy.”
“I cannot play with you,” the fox said. “I am not tamed.”
“Ah! Please excuse me,” said the little prince. But, after some thought, he added: “What does that mean — 'tame'?"
“It is an act too often neglected,” said the fox. It means to establish ties.”
“To establish ties?”
“Just that,” said the fox. “To me, you are still nothing more than a little boy who is just like a hundred thousand other little boys. And I have no need of you. And you, on your part, have no need of me. To you, I am nothing more than a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes. But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world . . . ."

“早晨好！”狐狸说。
“早晨好！”小王子礼貌地回答，但他环顾四周并没有看到任何人。
“我在这儿！”这个声音又响起，“我在树下。”
“你是谁？”小王子问，“你长得好漂亮！”
“我是只狐狸。”狐狸说。
“快来跟我一起玩，”小王子建议道，“我非常不开心。”
“我不能跟你一起玩，”狐狸说，“我还没被驯服呢。”
“哦，恕我冒昧了”小王子说，但他想了一下，又追问：“什么叫‘驯服’？”
“这是一个太容易被忽略的行为，”狐狸说，“它意味着建立关系。”
“是的，正是如此”狐狸说，“对我，你只是个成千上万的小男孩中的一员；对你，我只是只成千上万的狐狸中的一只。我不需要你，你也不需要我。但如果，你驯服我，我们将彼此需要。对我，你将是这世界上独一无二的，对于你我也将是这个世界上独一无二的……”
