本课程主要是为了准备参加AP化学考试的高中生准备的,主要课程内容如下:
Lesson 1 Stoichiometry We will focus on the use of chemical formulas to represent reactants and on the use of quantitative information to obtain about the amounts of substances involved in the reaction.
Stoichiometry is built on an understanding of atomic masses, chemical formulas, and the law of conservation of mass.
Lesson 2 Gases We will focus on the physical properties of gases, understand the ideal gas law and the molecular theory of gases.
Will also practice on how to find out density, effusion rate, average rate.
Lesson 3 Electron structures of atoms We will discuss the quantum theory and use quantum theory to describe the arrangement of electrons in atoms.
Lesson 4 Molecular Geometry and Bonding Theory We will focus on studying the relationship between two-dimensional Lewis structures and three-dimensional molecular shapes. Examine more closely the nature of covalent bonds.
Lesson 5+6 Thermodynamics We will examine the relationship between chemical reactions and energy changes involving heat. Will discuss all three thermodynamic laws.
Lesson 7 Liquid and Solid/Intermolecular Forces The physical properties of molecular liquids and solids are largely due to intermolecular forces. We will focus on intermolecular forces, different type of solids, phase diagrams, and the colligative properties of liquids.
Lesson 8+9 Kinetics Understand how to determine the rates at which reactions occur and to consider the factors that control these rates. Understand first, second, and zero order rate law and their corresponding half lives.
Lesson 10 Chemical Equilibrium Focus on how to express the equilibrium position of a reaction in quantitative terms. Study the factors that determine the relative concentration of reactants and products in equilibrium mixture.
Lesson 11 Acids and Bases We will study the different definition of acids and bases, acid strength (pH), and percent dissociation.
Lesson 12 Buffered Solutions Will focus on understanding aqueous solutions by looking at applications of acid-base equilibrium. Will practice calculating pH for buffered solutions. Will also discuss complex ions and solubility of slightly soluble salts.
Lesson 13 Electrochemistry Will focus on the relationship between electricity and chemical reactions.
Lesson 14 Organic Chemistry Review nomenclature of basic organic compounds, such as alkanes, alkenes, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones and carboxylic acids. Review basic reactions.
Lesson 15 TBD I would like to reserve one class time to help students review or, if needed, help students comprehend equilibrium/buffered solutions or electrochemistry more thoroughly. If each student understands all of the topics, we will take an AP practice exam.

Mrs. Hong Wu received her B.S on Chemistry at William Smith College and M.S from Cornell University graduate school of medical sciences. She has been tutoring local students on AP Chemistry and SAT Chemistry for around 6 years.
