Laws have made it illegal to blacks and whites to be buried in the same cemetery, they categorize people into court rooms and doctor rooms. They punish a black people for seeking medical attention in a white hospital. Some may claim that slavery has ended. But tell that to the inmates who are kept and caged and don’t have any rights at all. People like my client and millions of people like him who are relegated to a subclass of human existence in our prisons. There was no alternative to justice in this case, there was no other option, to decide against my plaintiff, it should choose in a lime of the pocket of the prison owners over providing basic defense for the people who live in them. Is that the America that this court really want to live in? That money is more important than humanity? That criminality is confused with mental health? The 6th amendment was ratified in 1791. It has been 226 years then. Let’s finally guarantee its rights to all of us citizens.
