Fish

Fish 这个名词，有时是可数的，有时是不可数的。
可数的时候，有两个情况：
第一个情况是不管几条鱼，都是用 fish 这个字眼-- one fish, two fish, three fish...
第二个情况要用到 fishes 这个字眼-- the fishes, many fishes....

我们日常生活里碰到的大部分是第一种情况：

我妈妈今天买了三条鱼。
My mom bought 【three fish】 today.

我的鱼缸里有八条鱼。
There are 【eight fish】 in my fish tank.

第二种情况是要用到 fishes 作复数的. 这是当我们要说到鱼的【种类】的时候。比如这样：

南中国海的海域里有很多不同种类的鱼。
There are many different 【fishes】 in the South China Sea.

那么，如果妈妈买了三条不同种类的鱼呢？用 fish 还是 fishes？

当你提到这些鱼的时候，你的焦点是它的数量，而不是种类，你还是用 fish。

Mom bought three big fish; it is more than enough for the five of us.
妈妈买了三大条鱼；这够我们五人吃不完了

当你的焦点是在种类的时候，用 fishes.

Mom bought three fishes that I have never seen before.
妈妈买了三种我从来没见过的鱼。

以上是 fish 作为可数名词的两种情况。

那么，什么时候 fish 是不可数的呢？

当鱼已变成鱼肉的时候，是不可数的。
同样地，鸡猪牛羊有完整的体型时是可数的，变成肉时就不可数了。
