During the second chapter, I see how love between Elio and Oliver developed and finally speak it out. The author still spend a lot small details to describe Elio’s secret emotion.
“This was probably the first time in my life that I spoke to an adult without planning some of what I was going to say. I was too nervous to plan anything.”
When face the one who we admire, how Elio feel is perfectly normal. And that’s also why I like the author’s description, such feelings are so real.
“Because I want you to know,” I blurted our. “Because there is no one else I can say it to but you.”
I guess it means that to Elio, Oliver is the “special one” .
“To ask my little world to let him in, so that the place where I came to be alone on summer afternoons would get to know him, judge him, see if he fitted in, take him in, so that I might come back here and remember. ”
I love this inner monologue most. Elio opens his heart and just wanna Oliver to walk in, so that Elio could remember everything, every feeling he get from Oliver. And in that case, he could live in memories when Oliver left. That’s sorrow and also touching.
Take him to his own secret world just want to share with you, as if you were me. I love everything here because spent it with you.
Finish reading this part, what I feel is two lovers are talking about a taboo and fruitless love, like a mirage. In those days, it was taboo. Their love is what happens to them, their mutual recognition and the comfort and security of being with that person. They are willing to show their all to each other, and the other side fully accepts and presents themselves to him. This process is the beauty of love itself.
That love is love, like that is just kind of, it just looks like love.
