DARTEL是Diffeomorphic Anatomical Registration Through Exponentiated Lie Algebra (DARTEL, Ashburner 2007)的缩写,是一种配准方法,DARTEL工具包可实现高维的变形过程,它增加了个体间的配准,从而提高了分析的定位和灵敏度。

VBM都不陌生,是基于体素的形态学测量,VBM的应用也很多。许多科学或者临床上感兴趣的问题与大脑的某些脑区体积有关系,比如大脑形态测量的局部模式可以帮助区分不同的组(如精神分裂症患者和健康对照组);也有助于解释在发展和老龄化过程中所看到的变化;还可以寻找结构性的关联(比如分数、特征、遗传学等等)。
可以看个具体的例子,比如下图所示的VBM与利他行为的研究,Morishima等人在2012年的研究发现颞顶交界区(TPJ)的灰质体积的个体差异不仅转化为总体利他行为倾向的个体差异,而且还在大脑结构和大脑功能之间建立了联系。

VBM的组织分割:高分辨率核磁共振成像揭示了大脑中精细的结构细节,但并非所有这些都是可靠或有趣的。比如会存在Noise, intensity-inhomogeneity, vasculature等的情况存在。

VBM本质上是区域分割组织密度或体积的统计参数映射。灰质密度或体积的准确解释是复杂的,取决于所使用的预处理步骤。它不能解释为神经元的堆积密度或其他细胞结构的组织性质,但好消息是这些微观性质的变化可以导致宏观或中观的VBM可检测到的差异。
