Bitcoin took over a national news cycle Wednesday evening as scammers hacked the accounts of dozens of high－profile figures, including Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Joe Biden and Barack Obama.
They posted scam bitcoin giveaways and enticed users to send more than $100,000 to their addresses.
The scammers posted the same message, promising users who give Bitcoin to an account listed in the tweets double their payment in return, which is a common cryptocurrency scam.。
