Hi everyone, today I want to introduce a book called the Women in Black by Susan Hill.
This is a fiction book and it is also a scary,horror story.
Our main character is called Arthur Kipps. he works in London and he was a solicitor. His wife's name is Esme, she was a widow when Arthur married her, so he becomes father of her four young children. he lives in a building called MONK’S PIECE.
One day Mr Bentley tell him to go to a place called Eel Marsh house because Mrs Alice Drablow was dead. Arthur is her solicitor so he has to go there.
Arthur went on the train to Eel Marsh house. On the way, Arthur met a man called Samuel Daily, he is a very kind man, he let Arthur lives in his house.
After one dinner with Mr Daily, Arthur decide to go to Eel Marsh house.
Mr Daily firstly don't want them to go because he thinks that is a dangerous place but at last Mr Daily agrees them to go to that house and let them take the dog(Spider).
Arthur took the dog then they went in to Eel Marsh house. There were lots of scary things that terrified them like a chair was rocking gently in a house with no people.
When they went out of that house, they both get stuck in the mud, they almost got engulfing by the mud but he creeps slowly and slowly and finally he reach the door of the house and he has survived.
When he walks back to Mr Daily's house, he felt so bad and so tired. He went to bed and sleep. In his dream, he had dreamt the women in black has staring at him beside the bed.
He got up so tired. Mr Daily said to him: No child has died⋯⋯yet. Then Arthur said goodbye to Mr Daily and went on the train to London.
Four days later, when Arthur is playing with his wife and his son, the woman in black appears and kill his wife and his son.
The most interesting part of the book is at the end of chapter 13. When Author went out of the Eel Marsh house, he felt very nervous. HE thought every time the woman in black appears, a child always dies. But this time, every child is good and no one has even got hurt. So he went back to ask Mr Daily, Mr Daily said a word that surprise me. he said: No child has died…... yet. that gives Author a fright. And now we know what's happening next. The woman in black appears and kill his family.
The first time I finish this book I was very nervous. I don’t understand why does the woman in black kill Author’s family, but after I reread the book many times, I found out that Author has been cursed since he walked in the Eel Marsh house so the woman in black kept chasing him and at last she kills his wife and his son.
Well who is the Woman in black? The woman in black is Jennet Drablow, she didn’t marry Charles Drablow but they have a child. Then Charles Drablow abandoned her and married her sister Alice Drablow. Jennet Drablow was very sad. After she died, she stayed at this human world as a ghost because she was too sad. What a terrible relationship!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think this is a very good book because it has very good story line as well as writing technique.
