I Hate Persistence
When speaking of persistence, people always recogonize it as a great quality, a indispensible qualification leading to success. Maybe, it's ture in some circumstance, but i wanna say: I hate it.
The other day, a firend talked of a little girl in grade two, kid of high level intellectual，possiblly from Haidian Distict, spent 2 hours practising piano and one hour football every day from Monday to Friday. Wow, that's amasing, however, my guts feeling is: is it worthy? Isn't that life is more than just piano and football for a kid?
In a highly involving era when people weigh persistence much more than other traits, almost everyone from toddlers to seniors, every activity from event of great significance to micro daily life, it is such a univeral golden rule and passed down one generation to another. If you are hoping to live a health life, keep eating less and workout more. If you go to hospital, keep taking the medicine, a common doctors's order. Even if you want to become an advance speaker, just stop making speeches for half a year, then you find how easy it is to lose your confidence on stage. But why we cann't have it once and for all? Let me share my reasons why I resent persistence.
First and for most, it's waste of time. Thinik about a hospeless relationship or a terrible job you may stay in for 5 years to 10 years, what's meaning of insistence there? Many years ago, Hong Kong Actor Andy Lau got a trauma for a crazy female fan who seek after him for more than a decade even, even after her father sold his kidney for money cause they couldn't afford it anymore and commit suiside in the end. If only she could make full use of the passing years and get along with her parents, Is it still possible that she end up with such a tragedy, fortunately, now she gave up her obsession and work for a charity.
Next, it can cause torture and amplify pressure. One minute on a stage needs ten years practice off the stage. In other words, you paid ten year's hard work in exchange for a big smile.Hang in there, don't give up, you can make it, you may call them pump up slogan，but that‘s also a mantra where our pressure came from. Look at those athletes, writers, probeply masters of any kinds, forgive me if i offend you with these titles, most of time, it's easy to tell from their faces that they are suffering and feel longely as they wouldn't and couldn't stop. Accumulating pressure well explains why the surge of depression among young people in these days.
And It dosen't warrant a success. If you walk into a false path, you may drift away from your orgininal dream. You may long heard of helping plants growing by puling them, actually it's to kill. Examples of that are many. Most recently, Yin Ye, CEO of Huada Gene, mentioned about his years of obscure hard working in the industry before his success and, so forth encourage people to stick into a company or a sector. Yet, my question is what if the company failed in it's investion or competion, will or not he become successful?The truth is Success got to hold all the cards rather than simply persistence as too many things are out of our control.
Let's go further, it may also deprive a new possiblity. In the case of Steve Jobs and Bill gates, both of them droped out from eminent university, started their own company and eventually became world famous billionare. I don't mean that people has to get out of school so as to pursuit greater success, rather, persistence in scholarship are nothing compare with their ambicious and passion, it's very likely that they may miss the trend or opportunity by continuing their academic study.
The negative list can go on and on. You may comment that's all excuses for being laziness or emotion vent, to which i won't deny as I having a natural hatre for persistence out of my gemini horoscope, that is, unstabilty. Persistence can work wonders, but it should stem from your intrest, passion or dream, which can make it a lot easier to chase after your goal. And most important of all, please, please don't forget to stop for a while from time to time to admire beautiful roadview along your way , to spend some quality time with your family/friends, and look upon the starry sky.
