澳村摇滚之王—Johnny O’Keefe

Johnny O’Keefe，原名John Micheal O’Keefe，澳大利亚摇滚之王，1935年1月19日，生于悉尼。Johnny在家里排行老二，其父Raymond Moran O’Keefe是家私销售,也是在澳大利亚土生土长澳洲人。Johnny 上过大专，Christian Brother’s College，当时学的是零售，也顺利毕业，期初也是想跟随其父的脚步，从事销售。也许是因为Johnny的父亲有时会在爵士乐队里面演奏，又也许是因为Johnny在学校的时候参加过合唱团，学了点钢琴，也可能是他自己年轻时喜欢模仿美国流行乐偶像Johnnie Ray的唱法和台风，就这样不知不觉地为日后的摇滚之路打下了基础。

年轻的Johnny还是很勤奋的，一边在老爸的家私店帮忙，一边在悉尼大学攻读经济学。1955年，20岁的Johnny去看了场电影。那场电影是Blackboard Jungle,他听了Bill Haley 的Rock Around the Clock之后就下决定要做个摇滚歌手。年轻人就是有点冲动，从此就走上了摇滚之路。1956年的九月份，Johnny和他的好基友Dave Owens组建了Dee Jays 乐队。除了他们两人还有Johnny Greenan, Lou Casch ,Keith Williams和Johnny “Catfish”Purser.刚刚开始的时候，乐队主要在Coogee 海滩边上的歌厅演出。后来又在新南威尔士州的四个地方辗转演出，分别是Chatswood, Coogee, Balmain 和Pertersham。

乐队渐渐有了一点名气，便和费斯德伍唱片公司合作（Festival Records Pty Ltd），开始出唱片了。发表了You hit the wrong note Billy Goat 和Am I blue?等单曲。1957年10月，乐队得到了一个抱大腿的机会，与美国摇滚明星Little Richard同台演出。Johnny和小伙伴们兢兢业业摇滚两年多，乐队还不是很红。一直等到1958年3月，乐队发表了Wild One，一鸣惊人，一炮而红。

少年Johnny常常在家里的家具店帮忙，少不了搬搬抬抬，也就练就一身肌肉，又加上172的身高，在旁人的眼里看来，他比较像是一个拳击手，而非一个歌手。然而在舞台上表演的不是拳击功夫，而是歌唱表演。老实说，Johnny的歌喉声线也是平平无奇，颜值也不见得爆表，或许是因为他特别的台风捕获了观众的欢心。他本人也说过，It’s didn’t matter how you sang the song; it matter what you did.澳大利亚的村民都比较淳朴，既不要求歌喉精致性感，也不要求颜值天下无双，单单是看到歌者在舞台上的努力，便可以喜欢这歌者，难怪澳洲人要被贴上Down Under的浑号。

所谓的Down Under，指的是澳大利亚和纽西兰。很久很久以前，英国有很多猛zui人fan被送到了澳大利亚，网友戏称“in other words England chopped off its balls and sailed em to Oz. ”。在英语口语里面，如果一个人说“He is no ball”意思是指“他很怂”，ball本意是球，此处指睾丸....... 反正，土澳就算被叫成Down Under，也不争，也不吵，还欣然接受了这个Down Under的名号，甚至会自豪的把Down Under打印到自己的T-shirt 上面。这也是Johnny在澳村会红的原因之一。事实上，Johnny成名之后，两次尝试去美国发展，结果都是郁闷收场。
