    本节是一篇反映单元主题的课文,语篇类型为小品文,课文以幽默,风趣的艺术形式呈现了让学习者迷惑不解的“疯狂”现象,引导学生深入思考英语的特点,激发学生对英语学习的兴趣。

    Learning objectives 

    1. 通过推测和略读,获取课文大意,根据课文内容准确理解课文标题和作者的写作意图。

    Learning process

    Step 1 Warming up

    1.Observe the expressions and try to guess what they really mean. rain cats and dogs; black sheep;  fighting cock

    Tips:  

    Maybe some of them never study the phrases before,maybe some know the words,the point is to arouse their interests.

    1. Do the pictures really tell us the true meaning?

    Tips:

    Students will say the wrong answers,which is not important.The point is to let the students know English is diverse and interesting.

    设计意图:通过引入有趣的英语日常表达,激发学生对英语这门语言的好奇心,从而引入课文环节。

    Step 2 prediction

      Look at the title of the passage and the pictures. Guess what the passage is about.

    Activity 1

    Tick what you think the passage is about.

    Possible answer:      They might choose food or fruit

    设计意图:通过文章的标题,图片等,帮助学生预测文章主题,同时也培养学生的阅读策略与技能。

    Possible answers:

    Check their own answers.

    设计意图:在完成对文章主题的预测后,引导学生关注文章的语篇类型,结构,写作目的,帮助学生通过再次阅读来完成对文章主旨的进一步理解。

    Activity 3

    A. to share the difficulty in learning different English words well

    C. to instruct how to spell difficult English words correctly

    D. to analyze the reason for inventing the language of English

    设计意图:此活动检验学生阅读课文后对作者写作意图的理解。学生通过阅读,找出课文主题句。

    Activity5 Read the following information and answer the questions.

    1. How did pineapples, hamburgers and eggplants get their names?

    2. Does the information above give you a better understanding of the passage? Give your reasons.

    Possible answers:

    1. The name of “pineapple” developed from the Spanish word “pina”, with “apple” added to show it’s a kind of fruit; the name of “hamburger” came from the idea of “Hamburg steak”, and later people reinvented it and called it “hamburger”; eggplants got the name because they used to look like eggs.

    2. There may be different stories behind the words, some are about history, some are about culture, still others are about appearance…

    设计意图:通过课文内容的补充材料,介绍课文中部分词汇的来源,学生可以加深对学生对科恩住址和主题语境的进一步理解,拓展学生的思维。
