The Great Gatsby

Exactly, I read the book of the Chinese version when I was a student in grade 2 in the high school. After that, I watched the movie. Nowadays, it’s after at least three years that I read it in an English version and watch it again. I hardly give you a specific description about my emotion and mind when I watched it for the first time. If I have to recall some feelings, I admit that I couldn't’t understand the book perfectly. For instance, I failed to figure out the intricate relationship between several people after the traffic accident happened. So I watched the movie in order to solve the problem. In fact, attracted by the luxurious and marvelous scene rather than the plot of the film, I didn't attain my goal. Meanwhile, I lacked the ability to comprehend the core of the book. By contrast, now, I am capable of understanding it. Although, there are a few expressions beyond my recognition. Overall,I form a unique perspective about the book.

We can perceive obvious American dreams mixed in the whole book which demonstrate in the character of Gatsby. He combines wealth dream with love dream. The former is a kind of approach and the latter is the final aim. According to my understanding, his dreams are built in the illegal foundation in a fraudulent way to accomplish the destination. But, the man is rare that he possesses numerous wonderful merits. He is pure, punctilious and firm, totally different from those people presented by Tom and Daisy, who are extremely selfish, dissolute and tactful. They pay less attention to the family commitments, pursue self happy and satisfaction in the material rich

In my opinion, Daisy cannot break up with Tom to live with Gatsby. Girls like daisy, their best ending is to marry with a wealthy and noble aristocrat in order to maintain their status and class. However, boys like Gatsby without steady and strong social status, cannot meet the diverse requirements of theirs. Five years ago, it was impossible, and now nothing changes. The huge gap between them can hardly be narrowed. The original love Gatsby to Daisy is founded on the basis of unknowns with a little lie. He is never matched with the girl. This is exactly the tragedy’s of the lower class.

People are fool for love in the majority of time, including Gatsby. He cares her with the whole heart, loves her and waits for her. In the contrary, Tom and Daisy, the upper wise class, one designs a conspiracy to kill Gatsby, another hesitates her love for two men so as to hold onto them at the same time. After the traffic accident, they are still careful with themselves. Such people are much tactful. On the other hand, Gatsby is the symbol of capitalism making a living on the verge of social moral and earning a great deal of money in an illegal method. Eventually, those cannot satisfy his requirements and cannot be accepted by some people. The world of this book is filled with filthy money trade, materialism and hedonism which are the vivid reflection of that generation. All in all, we also need to meditate if the way we take to achieve our dreams is right? And whether the dream is correct or not?
