The Eagle and the Jackdaw

An Eagle, swooping down on powerful wings, seized a lamb in her talons and made off with it to her nest.

一只老鹰振翅从天空俯冲而下，抓住了一只羊羔，并将他带回自己的鸟巢里。

A Jackdaw saw the deed, and his silly head was filled with the idea that he was big and strong enough to do as the Eagle had done.

寒鸦见此，产生了一个愚蠢的想法，他认为自己的身体足够庞大和强壮，完全可以像老鹰那样去抓羊。

So with much rustling of feathers and a fierce air, he came down swiftly on the back of a large Ram.

于是他气势汹汹地煽动翅膀，飞到了一只巨大的公羊的身上。

But when he tried to rise again he found that he could not get away, for his claws were tangled in the wool.

但是当他想要起飞的时候，他发现自己没法飞起来，因为他的爪子跟羊毛交缠在一起了。

And so far was he from carrying away the Ram, that the Ram hardly noticed he was there.

别说把羊抓走，那只羊根本就没有留意到寒鸦的存在。

Moral

Do not let your vanity make you overestimate your powers.

别因为虚荣高估了自己的实力。
