英语philosophy一般会翻译成“哲学”，当遇到“philosophy of…” 这个短语结构的时候，翻译哲学恐怕就不是那么合适了，翻开字典发现，这个单词还有一个含义：
a group of theories and ideas related to the understanding of a particular subject
所以不妨将“philosophy of…” 中的philosophy理解成“学问”，如“philosophy of education”翻译成教育之学；同理，PhD中的philosophy指的也不是哲学，诚如大学士所言：
PhD应译作“学问博士”而非人云亦云又不知所云的“哲学博士”。此处，philosophy取古义，统指“学问”，非狭义之“哲学”也。
