Actions speak louder than words
A few months ago, I wasshopping on Taobao in front of the screen, with my chin cupped in my hand andwondering who is Jack Ma exactly ? And who is Matin Luther King and who is JaneGoodall. Oh, yeah, (they are all the greatest men who have been devotedthemselves to the campain of changing of the damn world! ) But what’s mybusiness? I am not intelligent enough, I m not perseverent enough and I am notpatient enough. I had never thought about that I can change the world. I hadn’teven realized how powerful the actions are while you are endeavoring to changethe world! (Now, my mind is changed.) So let’s see what happened to me.
Duringmy summer vaction,I distinguished myself as a volunteer in a project concerningenvironment in Indoesia. We 10 volunteers were all living in a small villagewith the beautiful pastoral views. Goats, dogs and roosters were everywhere. Fromwhere I stand, It is as same as the scene in the poem of Tao Yuanming—”Dogs indeep crowing mulberry.” But what I didn’t tell you is that where the childrenwere having fun was literally a pile of somky garbage. Why? Because people wereburning the garbage everywhere. What’s worse, there is some plastic included, which makes smoke. Resulting from being undereducated, even if the residentsthere are admittedly the citizens of the world, the only thing they would takeinto account is thier 3 meals. One day in the early morning, we carried a basketmarching towards the garbage mountain. The children who were enjoyingthemselves there all stopped and shoved each other to get closer to us. What astonishedus is that, without being asked , they started imitating us to pick up thegarbage and then put it into the basket. More surprisingly, a boy came to me,wearing a pure smile, and with the banana skin on his hand. He was just about 4years old and apparently he was not able to speak English. But it seemed likehe was asking me, ”Mz, should I put it into the basket?.” I can not speakBahasa. But is didn’t prevent me from communicating with him. I shook my headand pointed at the plastic bag held on my hand and said, ”Plastic. No burning.”He seemed to realize sth, turned around and rushed at his little friendsexcitedly and shouted, ”Plastic! Plastic!”
Thatnight, I didn’t sleep a wink. I lay awake thinking to myself, “It is thechildren who are living in the box and fail to experience the world that I’ve changed. They are the future of the world. And I did change the future, I did change theworld! I was amazed by myself. But the problem can not be neglected is that theworld is a composite world. We are all from different countries. We are all fromdifferent races. We may be trapped by the language while communicating, but wemay never be held back by actions! As a matter of fact, action is another wayin which you can convey your super idea about the civic awareness to the world inaddition to words. To some extent, actions can even speak louder than words.
Someof you may still doubt your ability to change the world or your responsibilityas a citizen. The voice”I can’t do it” in your mind is just like a lion. Youconsider it to be the indefectible king in the forest, but actually it can alsobe killed by the shotgun. And action is the gun for communicating to yourheart, which can undoubtedly conquer the fear of self-approval. Actions speaklouder than words. Only by acting on it can you really be convinced of thecontribution that you’ve maken to the world.
