Part I. 作业练习：

1. 他的决定从经济上完全可以理解，但从道德上很难成立。

翻译：His decision can be understanding from the economic stand, but it is harder to justify morally.

答案：His decision can be justified from the economic point of view but can hardly be morally/ethically justified.

2. 场景：公司只追求短期内快速获利，不顾员工的个人成长和身体健康是不合理的。

造句：It is hardly justified for a company to sacrifice employees's personal development and healty body just for the sake of profit in short term.

Part II. 笔记：

juatify：to justify a decision, action or idea means to show or prove that it is reasonable or necessary.

justify表示“证明...是正当的”。在不同语境下，justify的翻译非常灵活。

例句：

1. The end justifies the means.

为了达成目的而不择手段。

2. The new features of iPhone Xs cannot Justify its hefty price tag.

苹果新出的iPhone Xs，其功能配不上那么昂贵的价格。

heft：large; larger than usual or expected; a heft amount of something, especially money, is very large.

eg. They sold it easily and made a hefty profit.

他们毫不费力地卖掉了它，得到了一笔可观的利润。

eg. a hefty fine  巨额罚款

3. The increasingly high cost of a few extra square feet of housing, not to mention of providing a good education, also makes it economically harder to justify more children.

额外几平方英尺的住房成本越来越高，更不用说提供良好的教育了，这也使得中国在放宽独生子女政策时在经济上很难实现。
