    Level6 Unit3 Part1 Listening Cyber Theft 1

    1.John is the owner of a small consulting business.

    2.Last night some important documents were stolen from John's office.

    3.They were locked up in a safe, and the only way to open the safe was with an 8-digit access code.

    safe: adj.安全的; 保险的,肯定的; 无损的; 提供保护的;

    n.保险箱,保险柜; 冷藏箱; 〈俚〉避孕套;

     (这之前,真的不知道safe有保险柜、避孕套的意思)

    8-digit access code:8位数字访问代码

    4.Whoever got into the safe must have had that code.

    5.So now he's trying to figure out who could have gotten it.

    figure out:想出;解决;计算出;弄明白


    1.Only two people in the company were authorized to have the code.

    公司里只有2个人被授权使用密码。

    authorize:to give official permission for sth, or for sb to do sth

    美 [ˈɔθəˌraɪz] vt.授权,批准,委托

    2.To improve security, John changed the code every month.

    为了加强安全性,John每周都更换密码。

    3.He had the code of course, and so did his assistant, Sylvia.

    4.As far as he knew, nobody else had it or had ever asked to use it to get something from the safe.

    5.There was no reason for Sylvia to take the documents, so he couldn't imagine that it was her.

    6.That wouldn't make sense, and she was completely trustworthy.

    这讲不通,况且她是完全值得信赖的。

    make sense:英 [meik sens]  美 [mek sɛns] 

    有意义;理解;讲得通;是明智的

     trustworthy:英 [ˈtrʌstwɜ:ði] 美 [ˈtrʌstwɜ:rði]

    adj.值得信赖的,可靠的;把稳;妥靠;信实

    7.Besides, she was on a business trip and wouldn't be back for several more days.

    8.So somebody else must have had the code and stolen the documents.

    9.If so, who was it  and how did they get the code?


    1.One possibility is that the code was written down somewhere, maybe in a notebook.

    2.Sylvia was famous for writing things down.

    3.She had a notoriously bad memory, so she kept a lot of notes.

     她是出了名的记性差,所以她记了好多笔记。

    notoriously:英 [nəʊ'tɔ:rɪəslɪ] 美 [noˈtɔrɪəslɪ]

    adv.恶名昭彰地;声名狼藉地;著名地;众所周知地

    4.Maybe she wasn't careful, and someone looked through her notes and discovered the code.

    5.But Sylvia wasn't that careless or irresponsible.

     irresponsible:英 [ˌɪrɪˈspɒnsəbl] 美 [ˌɪrɪˈspɑ:nsəbl]

    adj.不负责任的;不可靠的,缺乏责任心;[法律] 无责任能力的;无需对更高一级权力负责的

    n.没有责任感的人;[法律] 无责任能力的人;不被列入考虑的人

    6.She would never have written the code down on a piece of paper.

    7.So that couldn't be the answer.
