masculine: having qualities considered to be typical of men or of what men do
仿写: Hunting was a typically masculine occupation.
2. Countless sins can be erased by such small changes.
erase:to remove writing from paper
仿写: Some of the names had been accidentally erased.
3. The point is that clear writing is the result of a lot of tinkering.
tinker: to make small changes to something in order to repair it or make it work better
仿写: Congress has been tinkering with the legislation.
4. The name lingering in thereader’s ear is Othello; the reader naturally assumes that Othello is smalland malevolent.
malevolent: a malevolent person wants to harm other people
仿写: He gave her a dark, malevolent look.
5. I noticed that many reporters had fallen into the habit of trying to make the news more palatable by writing in a feature style.
palatable: an idea, suggestion etc that is palatable is acceptable
仿写: The truth, as always, is slightly less palatable.
Reflection
今天读的内容是昨天的第十章的后面部分,包含了sexism, rewriting, writing on a computer, trust your material and go with your interests. 给我印象最深的莫过于rewriting. As the author mentioned: I never thought of rewriting as an unfair burden; I'm grateful for every chance to keep improving my working. 写作就是不断的打磨与重写,删掉文章中的多余,重复与不必要的东西。写作也不可能一蹴而就,希望自己在未来的写作中不断rewrite, 总会有提升进步。
