By comparing <Shattered Sword-The Untold Story of the Battle of Midway> and <Battle of Midway>, I found that the <Battle of Midway>, written by Futida Mitsuo, was not written from an objective view; Futida Mitsuo did not describe all facts, intentionally distorted some of them and use his identity as a witness of the Battle of Midway, mislead people’s understanding of that part of history, which directly influenced people’s opinion about the true history of the Battle of Midway
From my perspective, Futida Mitsuo intentionally did all these things, which inherit the most common way that Japanese soldiers did in WWII. After the Battle of Midway, the Imperial of Japanese Navy made up several reasons to cover up the huge mistake that they made in real history.
In WWII, Japanese soldiers didn’t want to face their mistakes and avoid personal problems that they have created. This kind of hypocritical ideology and blindness national pride are the main reasons why the Imperial of Japan failed in WWII.
Futida Mitsuo, as an important person in Imperial of Japanese Navy, was the first people who wrote memoir about the Battle of Midway, making him to be the man who has the highest authority and avoiding all responsibilities that he has to take. This memoir described some exited part in the Battle of Midway and fulfill Japanese people’s national pride, concealing the truth of low efficiency in real battle.
