Lesson 17Always young

My aunt /ɑːnt/Jennifer is an actress /ˈæk.trəs/. She must be at least thirty-five years old. In spite of this, she often appears on the stage as a young girl /ɡɜːl/. Jennifer will have to take part in a new play soon. This time, she will be a girl of seventeen. In the play, she must appear in a bright red dress and long black stockings. Last year in another play, she had to wear short socks and a bright, orange-coloured dress. If anyone ever asked her how old she is, she always answers, 'Darling, it must be terrible to be grown up!'

/ʌ/是单元音中元音，这个音标在英式音标中的符号是/ʌ/，英式旧版符号和美式音标都是/ʌ/。

发音方法

 

现在来看看我们应该如何正确的发出/ʌ/这个音。

 

1）嘴巴张开一半左百，牙齿分开，下嘴唇略向下。

2）舌中部向硬颚抬起，不要接触到硬颚，舌尖和舌端两侧贴在下。

3）双唇向两边平展形成扁平状，震动声带，短促有力推出气流发出/ʌ/音。

注意：/ʌ/个短元音，要诀是发音时收小腹，注意与/æ/的区别。

a、字母o在m,n,v或th前常发[ʌ],例词：

· love /lʌv/ vi. 爱

· some /sʌm/ pron. 一些

· none /nʌn/ pron. 没有人

· mother /'mʌðə/ n. 母亲

· monkey /'mʌŋkɪ/ n. 猴子

· month /mʌnθ/ n. 月

b、字母u在重读闭音节中常发[ʌ],例词：

· under /'ʌndə/ prep. 低于

· hurry /'hʌrɪ/ n. 匆忙

· butter /'bʌtə/ n. 黄油
