Topic：Some people think modern games can help children to develop a wide range of skills, but others argue that traditional games can be much better for developing such skills. To what extent do you agree or disagree? 2008.11.29
题目大意：有的人认为现代游戏有助于培养孩子们的技能，有的人认为传统游戏可以更好的培养孩子们的技能。
每年1,5,9月份称之为雅思考试变题季，而本年度9月份变题季比以往来的更早了些，7月份还在考查社会、生活和工作类，8月份"话"风急转，考到了教育类题目；不过8月份写作集训营包含了该题目，可惜的是同学们还没有学完。
题目的关键是：modern games 和 traditional games 的区别是什么，如果不清楚，最好的办法就是举例子；现代游戏，Dota，LOL，各种手游(打开网页经常弹出来，尤其以张家辉和古天乐代言的居多..."大家好，我是家家辉，标准的粤普" invite celebrities to endorse their latest games) ，想必大家对这些游戏并不陌生。而这一切都是科技发展带来的红利 bring bounus due to the development of technology(此处一定要注意：不要接着写成科技发展给我带来的好处，否则你又离5.5分近了一步，因为跑题了，注意关键词是 modern games) .
虽然现代游戏能够在一定程度上开发孩子们的智力和团队合作的能力 develop their intelligence and learn how to cooperate with their peers，举例说明：孩子们需要记忆各种作战策略以及键盘组合按键 memorize various strategies and combination of keyboards 来赢得比赛，甚至需要组员团队合作 cultivate their teamwork spirits / realize the importance of cooperation. 但是，孩子们缺乏自制力 lack of self-descipline，很容易沉迷于网络游戏 easily get addicted to online games and therefore indulge in the virtual world.不利于孩子们的成长 which is detrimental to children's physical development and mental health.
对于00后各位，对于traditional games可能就不太熟悉了，而traditional也就说明游戏具有一定的年代感，像Eric这一代人还是深有体会的，小时候玩跳绳 rope jumping 和捉迷藏 hide and seek，玩一天都不知疲倦，身体可以得到锻炼 build up our body，像杀人游戏 killing games，作为00后的大家应该并不陌生，这可以锻炼孩子们的问题分析和解决问题的能力 enhance their problem analysing and solving ability.
参考8分范文With technological development, a good number of modern games have been designed specifically to cultivate a range of skills in children. As a result, many traditional games are being gradually replaced. This has sparked debate on which should be more appropriate for children to play, modern games or traditional games?
Some modern games such as those which need to be operated by the aid of computers often simulate real world physical activities, so they enable children to practice a variety of skills necessary to better adapt to the contemporary society, such as quick reaction, decision making and strategizing. Therefore, many believe that children should be encouraged to play these games.
However, other people argue that traditional games, such as football, flying kites and even hide and seek, etc. can develop those skills in children even better in actual practice. As these “old-fashioned” games are usually more kinesthetic than computer games and require teamwork in play, as a consequence, through these activities, children can not only master those individual skills more easily and directly, but also build good physique and develop very important interpersonal skills that are missing from some modern games.
I personally think that both modern and traditional games have advantages in themselves thus they should be played in complement to each other. It is true that modern games cannot replace all functions in traditional games, however, technology today is being largely integrated into education and many digital games have been designed to help children with their study across the curriculum. For example, students can learn reading maps, spelling and times tables through practice on computers. Therefore, while traditional games enable children to develop a healthy body and social skills; modern games can offer them something more.
