文章开始强调摧毁党的力量在于群众，如果群众能意识到自身的力量But the proles, if only they could somehow become conscious of their own strength. would have no need to conspire. They needed only to rise up and shake themselves like a horse shaking off flies.是能够粉碎所谓的Party

接下来Winston抄了孩子们的历史课本里的一段话，主要是讲伦敦以前的社会，变相强调了现在的社会的美好。

但Winston直接点出了疑问，有哪些是真实的，哪些是谎言呢？他任务Party所描绘的世界：

The ideal set up by the Party was something huge, terrible, and glittering—a world of steel and concrete, of monstrous machines and terrifying weapons—a nation of warriors and fanatics, marching forward in perfect unity, all thinking the same thoughts and shouting the same slogans, perpetually working, fighting, triumphing, persecuting—three hundred million people all with the same face.一系列的排比铿锵有力，掷地有声的指出了所谓理想世界的不可能，通过现在社会 和人就能看的出来。

擅自改动数字并不能有实质的改变，只能是自欺欺人。The past was erased, the erasure was forgotten, the lie became truth.

这一章充满了审视Party，洋溢着革命的火苗，最后提到了O’Brien
