China has obtained the longest express railway in total length around the world. Huge sum of government revenue has been spent on railway construction as some people think that it is necessary to shorten travelling time between cities. However, others believe that to improve existing public transportation is also important. Balance should be kept in railway construction and city public transport because of their different functions.
Express train has developed to be one of the most convenient and important transportation in China. First of all, it provides one more option when people want to travel to other cities. It has been difficult to buy train tickets before China's Spring Festival each year, but now railway train become a popular choice. Also, compared to airplane, it is a lot cheaper at ticket price and more accessible with lots of stations along the railway. If I need to travel for short distance to nearby city, I prefer to take railways instead of waiting long time in airport. For various good reasons, government believe it is worthwhile to spend a fortune in railway construction.
However, some concerns that we spent too much in railway construction and neglect the need to improve public transportation within each city. Regarding to frequency of using city public transport, everyone is influenced by the city traffic situation each day. When you spent 2 hours in traffic jam, the happiness level will drop down significantly and the working efficiency will decline. Tough shortening the travel time between cities boost up inter-city or cross-province Economy activities, improving local public transport is more valuable for local Economy.
We not only need to have developed new railways for strategy plan but also stress the importance of existing public transport. For example, bus system or subway system will need strong support from government to make them more systematic and convenient for citizens.
All in all, balance should be kept in expenditure in fundamental infrastructure. We should not neglect any for the important field which will impact people's daily life. To meet people's demand is our government's obligations.
