The Self-Improvement Addicts Club
This next point won't be applicable to everyone, but it's worth mentioning for the segment of people for whom this does affect.
If you're someone who constantly reads self-improvement information, you might want to set some boundaries for yourself. Reading new self-improvement materials can become a crutch for some people. That is, you're always trying to find the magic missing piece of information that will solve your self-puzzle and make action taking seem easier and more certain than it's ever going to be. You need to make sure you're translating your most important insights into action rather than just doing more reading.
Experiment: If you're a card-carrying member of the all-reading, no-action self-improvement-addicts club, try taking a break from reading new self-improvement material. For example, you might decide, “I'm not going to read any new self-improvement information for a couple of weeks” and see how that goes.
The issue isn't so much about trying new types of self-improvement; it's about continually reading to gain insights without taking much action or without prioritizing the most important insights you need to apply. In the two weeks you're taking off from reading new information, commit to applying one behavioral strategy in your life that you've previously read about. Choose that strategy now by first generating a list of three to six options and then picking one of those options. Plan when and where you're going to implement the strategy you've chosen.
