The Wayle is a small river that cuts across thepark near my home. I like sitting by the Wayle on fine afternoons. It was warmlast Sunday, so I went and sat on the river bank as usual. Some children wereplaying games on the bank and there were some people rowing on the river.Suddenly, one of the children kicked a ball very hard and it went towards apassing boat. Some people on the bank called out to the man in the boat, but hedid not hear them. The ball struck him so hard that he nearly fell into the water.

I turned to look at the children, but there weren'tany in sight: they had all run away! The man laughed when he realized what hadhappened. He called out to the children and threw the ball back to the bank.

(1)It was warm last Sunday, so I went and sat on the river bank as usual.

    went 和and 连读,sat 和on 连读

(2)I turned to look at the children.

    look at 这里at不读[æt],应该读[ət]

(3)The man laughed when he realized what had happened.

    had 弱读成[həd]

    2.知识点

    (1)polo 水球

(2)I like sitting by the Wayle on fine afternoons.

    by表示“在……

    (3)river bank

    (4)rowing on the river

(6)but there weren't any in sight
