One day, my brother Tyler, who is the third child in my family, told my father that he planned to go to college. My father kept silent rather than shout aloud, which is more serious. If he was gone, father would have no one help him build barn or do farm work. My biggest brother Tom and Tony had left home, one learning to drive trucks and making money to marry a girl and another one leaving home and never coming back.
My dad tried talking Tyler out of his decision, saying college is a place for someone who is too slow to learn, the professors in college don't tell the truth and college is a place for authority to educate its generations. Hearing that, Tyler didn't say he would give up going to college.
The reason why he was a strange family member is partly himself. He found it difficult to fit in. The rest of the children liked dancing jig while he preferred tango. Others fought again each other while he preferred book and being quiet. He also likes collecting things. One thing he collected is the maches of different years, in which he put the shavings. One day, I went to Tyler's room, where there was a stack of CDs. Instead of scolding me, he asked me to choose one to listen to. Being with Tyler was different from being with other brothers. Being with him, I tended to be calm and listen to music.
My mom has always been paying attention to our education until Luke, the fifth child in my family, started to learn. Before my father noticed the weavers appear, Tom Tony and Tyler entrolled in public school. But later, my mother taught us at home. And Tyler taught himseldf. He always got up early to learn until lunch time even though father asked him to do farm work.
One day, Tyler and I visited my grandparents. The atmosphere there was quite different from that at my home. Maybe life in my grandparents' home was what Tyler want to live. Grandma also encouraged him to go to college.
Eventually, Tyler chose to leave us and went to college even though I didn't believe he would. I didn't know what power pulled him from the mountain. Maye the power is from the music he listened to, maybe it is from the math book he studied.
