西方有星座，人们有时候可以根据一个人的星座来判断对方市一个什么样的人，现在我们也很多人在用这一方法。在我国，我们也属于自己的历法和纪时。从古一直至今，十二生肖是我们所用的方法。

一. 来历

古代没有计时的方法，人们就请玉皇大帝来帮忙，想一个记录时间的方法，于是他就让动物举行一个渡河比赛，最先渡河的动物就会被定为十二生肖。由此而来，十二生肖是里共有12种动物，而且每一种动物都代表独特的意义。

It  is a repeated cycle of 12 years, with each year being represented by an animal. The cycle begins with the Year of the Rat, and goes through Ox,Tiger,Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey ,Rooster, Dog,ending with the Year of Pig.

中国的生肖是12年为一个循坏，每一种动物代表一年。从鼠开始，随之是牛，虎，兔，龙，蛇，马，羊，猴，鸡，狗，最后是猪。

我们也有了本命年的说法，The year of the Ox is my year of fate/ animal year.牛年时我的本命年。

中国人认为，在相应年份出生的人，都有自己特殊的品质。Rat are wise. 老鼠代表智慧。Cattle are hardworking.牛代表勤奋。Tigers are courageous. 老虎代表勇猛。Rabbits are prudent. 兔子代表谨慎。Dragons are rich and respectful. 龙代表富贵。Snakes are romantic. 蛇代表浪漫。 Horses are fast 马代表速度 sheep are sincere. 羊代表真诚。Monkeys are smart and flexible. 猴子代表灵活。Chickens are endowed with beauty. 鸡代表美丽。

Dogs are faithful 狗代表忠诚 Pigs are amiable. 狗代表随和。

不同的动物代表不同的意义，对我们的生活的各个方面也产生了相应的影响。

Over thousands of years, this popular culture has affected people's major decisions, such as naming, marriage, giving birth and attitude towards each other. And some of the implications are quite amazing.

千百年来，这种流行文化影响着人们的大部分决定，比如起名、婚介、生产甚至对彼此的态度，其中一些涵义令人称奇。

We even refer to the zodiac when entering into romantic relations. I'm a Pig; I should have perfect romance with Tigers, Goats and Rabbits. Chinese people believe some animals are natural enemies.

甚至谈恋爱的时候也会参考生肖。我属猪，我最好的恋爱对象是属虎，羊和兔的人。中国人相信有些生肖天生相克。
