    His religion is patriotically like the King's.
    他的宗教观和国王是一致的,是爱国的。

    中世纪即将结束时,原来的宗教合一慢慢要宗教分离,世俗国王越来越有民族的自觉性。

    起点在于亨利八世。英国是一个非常不虔诚和世俗的国家。人生最多两回去教堂:结婚和葬礼。

    英国的国教和天主教决裂就在于此。

    Though he was more than once accused of atheism, and the whole trend of his philosophy is secular and rationalistic, he makes an eloquent and apparently sincere disclaimer of unbelief.
