part 2

Describe a time you solved a problem online.

You should say:

· When and where it happened

· What problem you solved

· How long it took you to solve the problem

· And explain how you felt about it

Presentation

Well, I'd like to describe the time I was looking for a song I could barely remember on the internet. As you know, sometimes when we are trying to recall a song, we only know parts of the tune, several words in the lyrics, probably wrong, and nothing about the name. This was the time. About half a month ago, I was chatting with one of my best friends in a cafe. I couldn't remember what we were talking about. Then this tune came up. We both felt so familiar, but couldn't memorise the name. Normally, people just stop thinking about it, and let this agony pass away. But I remembered there was this website that offered a service which allowed us to upload a short recording of the tune to search for the song. We instantly found the website, so we started to sing the tune to our phone. After about 20 seconds, the website returned our search result. I am not gonna bother you with the name or the tune. But I can tell you that the moment I saw the name of the song, I felt the whole world was brighter. I looked into my friend's eyes and I knew she felt the same way. I can't say it was a big problem, but the feeling after solving it is definitely memorable.

Part 3

· Other than going online, what other ways can help people solve problems these days?

Well, going online is a big part of our life, there are online communities with different topics that could help, online courses or video clips to teach almost everything. These days, we tend to forget that the actual help to get you through difficult times is from friends in real life and family. For instance, I can't expect to study abroad if it weren't for my husband and my family support, both emotionally and financially.

· Is the internet more efficient in solving problems?

Yes, with more resources, internet is becoming more efficient in problem-solving. For example, I need to practice my English. And internet offers all kinds of practices required. I can do repeating practice using BBC materials. It can tell whether my pronunciation is correct. I can do listening test with my smartphones on the subway, in a cafe or waiting for a bus. I can meet online learning mates to encourage each other. These have made internet more efficient in solving my problems.

· How can you motivate old people to use the internet for problem-solving?

For old people like my dad, they are used to their way of life, ignoring the changing world. And love, it is love that can help. My dad lives far away from me. we miss each other all the time. He used to travel to my place to see me, several hours trip, very exhausting. He was blunt about new technology. But he learned to use social apps, chatting online, video-calling with me. Now he organises parties with his old friends using social apps. And it all began with love.

· What are the disadvantages of solving problems online?

For us young people, the internet is full of rumours and outdated information that needs to be carefully distinguished. It is a hard-working process. For older people, they need to understand that some of the information, if not all, you see online could be false and inaccurate. They need to learn to tell the difference. That's no easy task, especially when internet fraud is so common these days.

· As a manager of a company, would you prefer your customers to · solve problems online or offline in a customer service center?

Well, solving problems via online customer service is ideal for most small business. The cost is low, and one customer manager can handle ten times more clients than off-line centre. It is more efficient. On the other hand, an off-line centre can do great help to improve the experience of clients. And people trust those who they meet in person. So if the business grows and we need to build up our image, I think an offline centre could be more preferable.
