Generally speaking, age is sometimes seen as an important standard for companies to select candidates. However, it is illegal for employers in some areas, which has sparked off an intense debate. From my point of view, the drawbacks of this phenomenon will surpass larger than the benefits in the following discussion.
Admittedly, young people may have more energy and open mind in some fields in the society. One explanation is that some mechanical labors maybe under a certain age, because in this kind of industry, companies need more laborers to do heavy physical jobs. Therefore, the health and age make up priority considerable factors in recruiting.
However, rejecting job appliance may cause serious loss for companies, because some job positions need much experience and strong capability. As we all know experience cannot be equally measured by ability, which needs time to accumulate. Besides, as the old saying goes “practice is the only criterion for testing theory”. Although these all prove that some capability, which is composed by high level of theory and knowledge can replace experience, young people may not have enough time to improve themselves and accumulate experience. Consequently, youngsters may not surpass old people in this extent. Thus, if companies just consider the age factor, they may not have further development.
In conclusion, limitation of age prevents some potential excellent employers. It is not wise only to focus on age to a significant condition. As mentioned above, it is an active development for firms.
