Practice noticing how often you move through life with a sense of unidentified unease — Something’s bugging you about life but you can’t quite figure out what it is.

A mentor of mine calls this the ‘refrigerator hum’ of anxiety. Your refrigerator makes noise, but you rarely hear it because of other sounds in your home that drown it out.

But when your home is completely silent, you can hear it. It’s strangely loud.

Low-level anxiety feels like this. Not clinically diagnosed anxiety, just this general feeling of anxiousness that comes with being alive.

That anxiety comes from knowing what you’re supposed to do, but failing to do it.

    • You know you should work out more.
    • You know that you should start that business.

There are important conversations you need to have but haven’t, tasks you should do but don’t, and goals you want to reach that you’re letting sit idle.

The gap between the way you should live and the way you do live subtly haunts you.

You’ll be happier with yourself when you finally start to do those things you know you’re supposed to do.
