毕加索说：“我能用很短的时间就画的像一位大师，但我却要用一生去学习画地像一个儿童。”
一直不是很理解这句话，终于到现在，感觉好像懂了那么一点了，是在看《中国哲学简史》这部书中‘悟’道的，容我细细讲来~
《庄子》大宗师篇中讲了这么个关于孔子与颜回的故事：
颜回曰：“回益矣”
仲尼曰：“何谓也”
曰：“回也忘仁义矣”
曰“可矣，犹未也”
它日复见，曰：“回益矣”
曰：“何谓也”
曰：“回也忘礼乐矣”
曰：“可矣，犹未也”
它日复见，曰：“回益矣”
曰：“何谓也”
曰：“回也忘坐矣”
仲尼蹴然曰“何谓坐忘”
颜回曰：“堕肢体，黜聪明，离形去知，同于大通，此谓坐忘”
仲尼曰：“同则无好也，化则无常也，而果其贤乎？丘也，请从而后也”
当然这是庄子编的故事，大致意思是颜回用“弃知”的方法得到了“内圣”之道。 “弃知”的结果是没有知识，但“无知”与“不知（弃知）”不同，前者是原始的无知状态，后者是经过有知阶段后才达到的，前者是自然产物，后者是精神的创造。就好像一个圆环绕了一圈又回到了原点，单回到原点后在二维坐标上是相同的，就是（X，Y）一样，但是Z坐标不一样了。但是我们智慧依然停留在二维空间上的话看起来好像是没什么区别，就像看毕加索的画看不懂一样，因为维度不同，这也就可以解释“…画的像个孩子”这句话吧，毕加索已经达到了类似颜回的境界，所以画得像个孩子，但是他所说的孩子和我们普通人理解的孩子肯定不是同一个意思。（开始觉得有点像独孤求败练剑那一段可以解释他的这句话，但后来觉得这个解释还是差一点，庄子的解释更好~）
好了，啰嗦那么多，回到毛姆和他的书上…书中的画家Strickland其实也像是到达的道的一种境界，可以说是“无我”吧，就像《老子》中说的“天地不仁，以万物为刍狗，圣人不仁，以万物为刍狗”，这里不能说Strickland已经到圣人的境界，但他真的好像到了以“万物为刍狗”的境界了…所以他离开自己的妻子、孩子没有一点怀念，他在巴黎情人（他朋友的妻子）因为他自杀了也没有一点悲痛之情，好像跟他没有关系,他为在乎的就是画画，可是他画画也从来没有想过去让别人看，他画画从来不为了得到别人的认可而去画画，他已经不属于这个社会了，说的好听一点，就是“出世”了。（我曾经思考过，我很喜欢画画，假如世界上只存在我一个人，没有人会看我的画，我还会画画吗？好像那个时候连活着都没有意思了哈，就像伯牙摔琴一样，再没有知音，我就不弹了，可是毛姆塑造的人物，好像已经超越了我们思维的边界了…,毛姆真是一个了不起的作家！！！）
冯友兰先生在他著的《中国哲学简史》中提到过这么一种说法：他把各种不同的人生境界划分为四个概括的等级，从最低级到最高级依次是自然境界、功利境界、道德境界、天地境界，我想，毛姆所描写的Strickland这个人物，好像是达到了第四种境界了。

25."it is obvious that to lead such an exitence and make so great a success of it,you must both have needed a strong will and a determined character."

He stopped，somewhat dramatically，and stretched out his arm.
"Belief in God.Without that we should have been lost"
