Nowadays, medal-winning athletes can make much more fortune than other professionals, which makes some people find it not fair, while others think it totally justified. Here we will look at both views and present my own thoughts.
On one hand, we know that when athletes win medals at games such as Olympics, they can get financials rewards. And some of them take advertisements to make money, which makes an impression that the fortune comes easy and unjustified. Actually these fabulous moments don’t tell the whole story. To win medals at large games, it requires talents and many years of hard efforts that normal people cannot imagine.
On the other hand, however, those who find the great amount of money totally justified seems to forget some parts of the picture. Of course, the hard work should be paid back. But the focus of athletes should remain on sports and the promotion of it, instead of making money at the expense of it. The nation has spent a great amount of money and energy on developing the group of athletes, who are expected to make contributions to the promotion of sports. If they take advantage of their hard-won fame and opportunities to make personal gains, the national resources spent on them would be a total waste.
To sum up, people think the great amount of money earned by athletes fair as they consider the hard work they made, while others find it unjustified if they make the money easily and seems to put money before sports. Personally, I think the financial payback should be limited to a reasonable range and athletes should be aware of their due responsibilities to contribute to better sports.
