The origin of Thanksgiving can be traced back to the beginning of American history, there was a group of English Puritans, they decided to leave England because they were dissatisfied with the British royal family's religious reform. A group of 102 Pilgrims sailed across the Atlantic ocean to America on the famous wooden sailing ship, the Mayflower. In the winter of the year when the Pilgrims landed in America, they were cold and hungry. The local Indians brought them food and daily necessities and specially taught them survival skills such as hunting and fishing. With the help of the Indians, the Pilgrims had their first harvest.
On a Thursday in late November, 1621, the Pilgrims and Indians gathered happily. At dawn they fired a gun salute and went into the church to give thanks to God. On the second and third day they held wrestling, running and other activities. Many of the celebrations of Thanksgiving Day have survived ever since.
