Whatever Marks says here is the prerequisite and the acknowledgement of understanding oneself. Its the bottom line. By recognising we are nothing, we are to be freed spiritually.
I like the metaphor of humans being the cosmic dust. That takes away self importance and ego from a macro lens. For the ever expanding universe, we would be long forgotten by the surroundings and the never stopping time.
But then as humans we still need to sustain ourselves, we still need hope to carry on our lives.
