    Blink

    Introduction

In the first two seconds of looking—in a single glance—they were able to understand more about the essence of the statue than the team at the Getty was able to understand after fourteen months.

    Summary

“Blink” opens by describing an authentication problem of an asserted ancient Greek sculpture. The sculpture was bought by a museum after a mass work of investigation, including identifying the “birth place” of the sculpture. But somehow, several art historians reported a feel of“intuitive repulsion”, and questioned the authenticity after visiting the sculpture. Investigation went on again. After eleven months of painstaking investigation, several trade documents were proved to be fakes. And thus, the sculpture is indeed at stake of being modern-made.

The story seems to suggest those art experts have some magical intuition that avail them to understand the essence of things in a second.
