I was too busy to read the book as much as I wanted yesterday. But I still soldiered on and finished a few more chapters of 《The Right Time》.
Alex, our protagonist, had had another relationship since she went to Europe. And the second one was nothing but a distraction to her. I was so glad that she ended it so that she could concentrate on writing the new book.
See? I was already rooting for the protagonist. You suppose to get your readers to root for you main character in your book. The author did a good job on this.
It was interesting that her mentor, the editor, and Harvard retired professor earned her previously to avoid other ”writers” to be her boyfriend because they would be so jealous of her.
It turned out to be so true. Both times her then-boyfriend was jealous of her. They were only ”wannabe” writers.
These people thought they had a book ”in them” but we're never willing to sacrifice and dedicated their lives to writing. And they put down others who worked hard and showed promise future so that they could feel superior.
Writing is a lonely and a hard road. It takes a great deal of effort and dedication for one to succeed. If one chooses to be a writer, he or she has to be both mentally and physically prepared. More importantly, ”Just sit down your ass and do it”!
