    "To be a philosopher," said Thoreau, "is not merely to have subtle thoughts, nor even to found a school, but so to love wisdom as to live, according to its dictates, a life of simplicity, independence, magnanimity, and trust."

    要想成为一名哲学家,不仅仅是能于细微之处有见地,甚至也不必非得建立一个学派,而是要热爱智慧,并在其指引下,去过一种简单的、独立的、心怀宽广的、坦诚可信的生活。—— 梭罗

    "Seek ye first the good things of the mind," Bacon admonishes us, "and the rest will either be supplied or its loss will not be felt."

    找到你脑海中美好的事物,后面的事情会自然到来,即使没有我们也不会怅然若失。—— 培根

    Truth will not make us rich, but it will make us free.

    真理无法让我们富有,但是它可以让我们自由。

    Science seems always to advance, while philosophy seems always to lose ground. Yet this is only because philosophy accepts the hard and hazardous task of dealing with problems not yet open to the methods of science—problems like good and evil, beauty and ugliness, order and freedom, life and death;

    看起来科学一直在进步,哲学却一直在倒退,这其实是因为哲学一直致力于解决尚未被解决的难题,诸如善恶、美丑、秩序与自由、生死。

    Every science begins as philosophy and ends as art; it arises in hypothesis and flows into achievement.

    科学常常是始于哲学,终于艺术,源于假设,归于成果。
