今天又学到两个和生活中司空见惯的日常用品相关的成语“Hit the books” and "below the belt",前者表示要拼命努力读书了,后者字面意思是低于腰带,表示收到“不公正”的待遇。
Hit the Books. It means to study extremely hard.
I need to hit the books if I want to pass that subject.
It's my finals next week so I need to go home and hit the books.
I can't go out tonight because I've got to hit the books.
Below the Belt. It means in an unfair manner.
His remark was mean and below the belt.
That comment was very rude and below the belt.
He hit me below the belt when he said I was fat.
