I have read some verses from book of Mormon and Bible randomly. To be honest, as Claire said, I read them just to show my knowledge of the scriptures, so that I misunderstood the real meaning of the scriptures. In fact, The book of Mormon is not merely a combination of historical stories, but rather a collection of sacred records because it came from Heavenly Father. As we read these stories, remember that they are about real people who lived in America long ago. So I decided to reread it from the very beginning with sincere heart and real intent. Moreover, I should always remind myself to answer the question "What do Heavenly father and Jesus Christ mean to me? " which was proposed by Claire.
With this mentality I reread The First Book of Nephi, Chapter One to Chapter Five. I felt quite ashamed that I had forgotten the stories and some famous quotes.But thankfully, I had a brand new view to read these verses, not just knowing the process of the events as I used to.
Lehi knew from God that Jerusalem would be destroyed because the people were wicked, and he should take his family and leave Jerusalem. So Lehi left their house and fortune and traveled into the wilderness. That action really needed much confidence and conscious obedience. Therefore, Lehi was blessed so did Nephi.
The process of retaking brass plates showed how The Lord and The Holy Ghost would lead us to fulfill tasks, requirements or obligations.
"The Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them." In my opinion, this verse tells us the Lord never gives us more than we can handle. Accordingly, I think if I get the answer from the Lord or the Holy Ghost I should take action immediately. No matter whether the answer complies with my thoughts or not, for example Nephi obeyed the Holy Ghost and killed Laban though he did not want to do that.
These above mentioned were my feelings about The First Book of Nephi, Chapter One to Chapter Five. Some of these may be incorrect, but at least I tried to remember the question "Heavenly father and Jesus Christ's meaning for me" when I read the book of Mormon.
