The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby is a 1925 novel written by American author F.Scott Fitzgerald. The story primarily concerns the young and mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby and his quixotic passion and obsession for the beautiful former debutante Daisy Buchanan. The Great Gatsby explores themes of decadence, idealism, resistance to change, social upheaval, and excess, creating a portrait of the Jazz Age or the Roaring Twenties that has been described as a cautionary tale regarding the American Dream. The protagonist.Gatsby was born into a poor family, but he had the great ambition to achieve the fortune and ideal happiness. And his lover Daisy is the symbol of youth, money and rich, the "American Dream"which is based on the consistent pursuing the wealth .However,he was totally wrong, who lived in the illusion, was abandoned by Daisy as well as the society, who eventually became the irretrievable tragedy.

The American Dream is "of a land in which life should be better and richer for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement."Unfortunately, this was never true to men like Gatsby, who merely lived in the illusion about the dream. Fitzgerald links Gatsby "with a world that no longer exist,a world that has been lost in bank rush of time,a world that offers more in promise than has been realism in fact."Gatsby was in a poor family, and he pursued Daisy as crazily as money, the beauty that didn't belong to him from ever to forever. He instilled Daisy with a kind of idealism perfection that she neither deserves nor possesses. What's worse,he mistook it as true love and was willing to devote all his fortune even his life to achieve it."The love Gatsby has for Daisy seems to be only pure impulse in a corrupt world."To some degree, his impulse was merely to satisfy his vanity, which won all the treasures in the world including Tom's wife,Daisy and enjoyed his success .”All the bright precious things fade so fast, and they don’t come back.”There is no denying that it was the distortion both the love and dream. It was the dream that deceives him into living with sufferings, and it was the dream that even make him die willingly.

"The loneliest moment in someone's life is when they are watching their whole world fall apart, and all they can do is stare blankly."Gatsby's death is the symbol of the distortion of the American Dream, and the same as the failure of that time.
