Compound words in English are words made by joining two or more words together. These words work together to make a new word with a different meaning.
There are three types of compound words:

These words have a space between them. For example, "table tennis". -
Hyphenated compound words:
These words have a hyphen between them. For example, "son-in-law". -
Closed compound words: These words have no space or punctuation. For example, "hairdryer".
Compound words can be used to describe many things and they can be nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and even prepositions. They are different from blended words. In compound words, each word stays the same. But in blended words, only parts of each word are used.
For example, the compound word "grandparent" is made from the words "grand" and "parent". Grandparents are similar to parents, but they are not the same.
Compound words are a common part of English and they help us to describe complex ideas or objects.
