Summary of my night English class-Hobby
When being asked what your hobbies are, without any hesitation, you probably answer like this: drinking coffee, reading books, listening to music, watching TV etc. However, according to what I've read today, these are not actually realted to HOBBIES.
So, what are hobbies?
Something can't be your hobby unless it has the following traits:
1. It demands a certain level of participation and involvement from its practitioners.
2. Many hobbies also involve improving or refining a techique, together with a sense of achievment or completion.
Think this question: is playing video games a hobby? That's really hard to say. If you are simply a player and play it for relaxation or killing time, it is not a hobby. But if you share the strategy on how to pass a difficult level, it is indeed a hobby. The completion of a level shows your participation, achivement and involvement.
Next time, when the others ask you the same question, what are your hobbies? Please think carefully before you answer it.
My teacher said in the class that she would develop reading as her hobby. So far as I know, she's a bookworm already. But today she exclaimed that she wanted to jump out of her comfort zone to read more kinds of books.
I love this idea. Reading could be a hobby. True.
