Q9: What caused Wang and his party's split and collapse?  How did the internal strife eventually put wang' s career to an end?

Q10: How close were Su shi and his brother? How was Su shi compared to his brother in their characters?

These two chapters present a perfect contrast between the internal strife in the court and the affectionate brotherhood of Sus. While one after another the members of the once powerful administration of Wang fell into disgrace, the two brothers were enjoying their leisure and family reunion, discussing politics, domestic affairs, and their future. Their characters, however, have already indicated their totally different destinies.

Tseyu was steady沉稳, practical, reserved拘谨, and given to few words寡言; Tungpo was volatile情绪多变, expansive, loquacious, naive and inclined to disregard the consequences of his actions. Tseyu was considered dependable by his friends and associates, while Tungpo often frightened people by his outspoken 坦率 genius and his fun and frivolity.

Every revolutionary party shows its best strength and unity before it comes to power, but after achieving power and weeding out opposition, it begins to crumble and split from internal strife.

To crumble is to come apart into tiny pieces. If the doughnuts you bring to work crumble before you get there, you co-workers will have nothing but crumbs to snack on.

Baked goods seem to crumble easily, but other things tend to crumble too: old houses, over time; sand castles; fragile ruins; and art objects made from clay. Anything that falls apart, especially into small bits, can be said to crumble.

»The cliff is gradually crumbling away.

»All his hopes began to crumble away.

•A group of extremists split (off) from the Labour Party to form a new "Workers' Communist Party".

搭配]PREP.~ between …之间的分裂:a split between the right and left wings of the party 该党左右两翼的分裂

on/over就… The party finally split over the issue of gun control.
