I have been literally spitted by different experts’ remarks about whether it is necessary to give kids a head start to make sure they win at the starting line of their race of life.
Some argued that kids need to accumulate some advantages to get better results than their peers. Success is the mother of success, which can build self confidence and motivation for more successes.
While other claim that parents should not ruin children’s carefree childhood. It is not a good idea to teach kids Tang poems, handwriting, alphabet, Chinese characters, simple calculation. Because these knowledge take away children’s time for more meaningful play in nature.
For some time, I do not whose advice to follow. Sometimes, inspired by my colleagues, I would ask the kids to sit down and read and write, I guess they did not enjoy that much. Actually, I do not think anybody enjoy that much cause it is repetitive. Sometimes. I would just lie down and let the kids do whatever they want to do. These are two extremes.
But the book Outliers that I read yesterday changed my understanding about getting a good start for kids. It is necessary, but parents should respect kids and never force them to do the things they do not like with the cost of losing children’s lively character.
