The Defeat of the Schools

He must, in short, be able to read what he writes, or listen to what he says, as if he were being taught by it. When teachers themselves do not possess the art of being taught, they cannot be very good teachers. 

        恰好自己最近正在准备考教师资格证，对于未来教师这一职业，以及如何做一名好教师也有些心得体会：

a、在思想上要,树立起做一名好教师的志向，在塑造每一个灵魂的同时,自己的心灵也得到了净化。教师的职业不仅是谋生的手段,更是一种生活的乐趣。

b、要有扎实的专业功底,了解学生的心理特点,了解与教学内容相关的知识，这样才能在教学中深入浅出,把握知识的深度,不断的将学生引入高处。

c、因材施教，循序开导。要自始至终地考虑学生的具体情况，考虑提出什么教学目标、创设什么情境、如何引导学生的思路、师生之间选取什么联系方式才能让学生真正成为主人,在教学中不照本宣科，而是以各种教学方式营造轻松、活泼、上进的学习氛围，用学生乐于接受的方法来教学,能激发学生强烈的求知欲和浓厚的学习兴趣，唤醒其自觉学习的积极性，去体验参与之乐，思维之趣，成功之悦。

d、关爱学生。老师要学会善待每一位学生，即使他是后进生。后进生可能是每个老师都感到头疼的事，但是如果转换一种态度，转换一个眼神，就可能取得意想不到的效果。

关于学校在阅读和写作方面失败的原因有两点：

The First reason was that they underestimated the importance and extent of the task, and hence misconceived the relatively greater time effort which must be devoted to it than to anything else. 

The second is that the arts have beenalmost lost. The arts I am referring to now are the liberal arts which once were called grammar, logic, and rhetoric.

（作者在本章里说的内容太过高深，有很多都一知半解，虽然理解表面意思，但get不到他的点…才疏学浅）

作者举了一大堆例子，最后道明真理：

To be saved, we must follow the precept of the Book Common Prayer: "Read,mark, learn, and inwardly digest."
