28/07/2021 brush up on English
Today I shared some opinions with my foreign friend about language learning methods. I recommended him an impressive book written by a Korean author, who used to be an underachiever, but he totally changed his life through learning English.
His method is quite simple and can be used in learning almost all kinds of foreign languages, including French, Japanese, Chinese, and all of them he has already mastered completely. He names the method as “100LS”, which means practicing “Listen and Speak” for 100 times by using one original English movie as a starting material. Subtitles are not recommended, of course, so you need to look up all new words in dictionaries and understand all the original lines thoroughly in the first three times of watching. After that, you shall start listen and repeat the lines a few times until you are able to keep up with the actors' speed of speech, reading aloud sentence by sentence, practicing after practicing, and you’ll finally get the key of using the language in your own life.
Learning English takes time. As a man sows, so shall he reap. I totally believe there is no best method of learning a language, but maybe the fastest way to learn is to use it. No matter what methods you use, giving up in the middle is worse than not starting at all.
Although I have been learning English for more than 10 years, I can't express my opinion well in English because I used to study for exams. I wish to have opportunities to talk fluently with native speakers in the future, so I should use English more often than before rather than just study hard. At any rate, I would say the study of testing techniques is much more boring than watching the same movie for 100 times.
